Roger loved sculpting. Problem was, he would get inspired to create a sculpture, then not follow through to actually do it.
I asked, “Have you ever finished a sculpture?”
He said, “Of course.”
“So” I asked, “What was the difference between the times you actually sculpted and the times you didn’t follow through?”
Upon reflection he realized that when he had a deadline, such as in school, or for someone else, he always did it.
I then asked, “So you finished when you had to be accountable to someone else?”
He said, “Yes.”
I wondered, “How can you set yourself up to be held accountable?”
And that was it; he figured out ways to tell his friends, set deadlines, use me and eventually others, to check in with.

Linda said, “My job is sucking all my energy”. I don’t have any let for my kids or to just have fun.
“What would you like to have instead?” I wondered.
She replied, “I want to do something that inspires me, but I don’t feel like putting my energy into it because I’m too tired all the time. I’m just surviving.” She had a real circular argument going on in her head.
I said, “Just suppose that focusing on what you want would energize you?”
“Well then, maybe I could…” she replied.
And she did that, starting out for just 5 minutes a day, she daydreamed about work that inspired her.
Soon, she reported back that she was feeling better and was ready to do more.

“Modeling” is a great strategy to stop unwelcome comments in their tracks.
Pam’s brother Bill was manipulative and undermining. Pam had distanced herself from him for years. Never the less, he was family, and there was an occasion coming up where she had to relate to him.
Pam was tired of being put down and rather than fall back into old patterns, she wanted to relate differently.
When we began to brainstorm various new ways to deal with him, she was stumped. I asked, “Who do you admire that would handle this situation just the way you’d like to?” Without hesitation, she said, “Walter. Walter would look Bill in the eye and laugh, then say, “Really?” with great exaggeration”.
That was it. I guided her to visualize it several times, then off she went.
Next session, she came in beaming. She had done exactly what she planned, and it was a success! Bill’s eyes widened in surprise, then sheepishly shut up!
Pam felt empowered and ready to move on to another subject.

(Part 2 in a series on Energy Medicine)
Energy Medicine (the most commonly known are Flower Essences) is a branch of Homeopathy. They are tinctures taken orally. I use them primarily to support people emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.
They work in a similar way to acupuncture, in that they stimulate or soothe various energy networks of the nervous system.
Each flower or gem has an energetic healing pattern that vibrates in a unique set of frequencies. Just like a tuning fork works by entrainment - tap one fork and hold it next to a 2nd still fork and the 2nd begins to vibrate exactly like the 1st - when we take an essence, our body begins to vibrate to the pattern of the essence and we experience the qualities that essence embodies.
For example, one of my clients was always worrying about her children. So much so that she often stayed awake at night fearing all the things that could happen to them. Along with the Life Coaching Conversation, I gave her Red Chestnut Flower Essence. Within 2 days, she was sleeping well and feeling an inner peace and trust in the unfolding of her children’s lives. Over time, this became her new way of approaching motherhood.
If you’d like to try Energy Medicine, give me a call.

(Part 1 in a series on Energy Medicine)
After years of meditation, I knew there was “more” but couldn’t quite “tap into” it fully. I walked around for about a year, asking myself, “What is the energy behind this or that?” Then one day, I was in the art museum looking at a painting, and I “saw” it; the “feeling” (energy) that the artist was conveying through the physical work.
Because the paradigm of our culture is primarily rational, scientific, and material in focus, people often “write off” conversations about anything that can’t easily be measured. The truth is - our broader cultural thinking hasn’t begun to catch up with current scientific thinking such as Quantum Physics’ String Theory - and that’s about as “woo-woo” as you can get. So I suggest that “woo-woo” is a “red herring”.
One of the most powerful tools I use in my Life Coaching Practice is Energy Medicine;
I make up formulas to:
• To reduce stress and give immediate emotional support
• To quickly and deeply integrate awareness gained during a coaching session
• To spark insight and expand awareness
And for people who think it’s too “woo-woo”, I just tell them “you don’t have to believe in energy medicine for it to work. Just suspend judgment, and experience it for yourself.
If you’d like to try Energy Medicine, give me a call.

One of my clients was frustrated, “I’m never satisfied, even though my life is good. Why?”
First I asked, “What do you want more of?” After a brief conversation, the bottom line was, “Freedom and Fulfillment”.
Then she asked, “So what do I have “to do” to get there?” And here’s where the problem was, “to do”. Freedom and fulfillment are a state of mind - not something you “do” so you can get there.
Of course there are things she could do to facilitate improving your life, but her real answer is acceptance of who she is.
And that’s when she realized that she had “a preconceived concept” of what success meant - only it really wasn’t what success was for her!
That awareness opened the door for her to explore what success means for her.
If you’d like more support to get what you really want, call me and let’s talk.

When Bill first walked in my door, he said, “My current counselor and I are “stuck” trying to figure out what’s wrong with me; I have so little confidence. I really want to move on. Can you help me?”
He felt “stuck” in his career and didn’t have the confidence to “move up” even though he had the expertise, ability, and desire.
After listening closely to what was going on, I suggested, “Maybe there’s nothing wrong with you at all. In what types of situations do you feel low self-esteem?”
He said, “I’m not confident at work. I’m “playing the game” but don’t really respect the management. I’ve gone along with some important things that I don’t feel good about…I ‘m not being true to myself.”
The key awareness for him was that when he was being true to himself, he had plenty of confidence. It was only when he wasn’t being honest that he lost confidence.
This was an opportunity for him to build his confidence by changing his behavior to be “true to himself”. And that’s what he did, and it worked!
Confidence is not just having the experience of doing something well, or praise from others, it’s about listening to your inner voice, being true to yourself, and KNOWING that you’re doing what you believe in.
If you’d like more support in building your confidence, call me and let’s talk.

Competition is tough. Whether you’re looking for a job or clients, you want to make a good, memorable impression. So you need to know, “What makes you special?”
Recently, one of my clients was stuck trying to figure out how to write a description of her services that didn’t sound “too self-aggrandizing”. Another client was preparing for an interview and was stuck thinking she might come off sounding “too aggressive”.
People often get stumped because they don’t want to be “pushy, aggressive, or brag”.
So here’s the truth - it’s not about you! The real question is “what’s unique about the product or services you offer for the end user” - They really want to know, ”What will you do for me that stands out from the crowd?”
For example, you might say, “I go the extra mile by making house calls”. They only care that you’re a “go-getter” because it will make it easier for them to use your services, not because they admire your values as a person (not that they wouldn’t).
So think of it as all about them, even though you have to tell about yourself so they know it’s coming from you.
Got it?

Someone asked me, “What do you mean by “edge”?
I was explaining that I love to take people to the edge of “what they know” and guide them to step off into “the unknown” to gain new understanding.
So I told her a story:
One of my client’s “perfectionism” was causing her stress. I asked her, “How does your perfectionism serve you?” She said, “It’s one reason why I do such a good job.”
Then I asked, “What is the right balance between doing a great job and saying “that’s good enough?” She said, “I need to find a different approach….it’s a process…if I aim for perfectionism and do my best…I’m not God…and over time I will continue to improve…that’s good enough! Then I can let go!
That awareness - at her “edge” - enabled her to continue to do a great job, yet reduced her stress because rather than always trying to BE perfect, she saw it as a process of moving towards perfection; and she found acceptance.
Between “what we know” and “what we don’t yet know” is that “edge”, where we can explore to gain awareness to improve our lives.
This is what I call Expanding Consciousness. If you or a friend would like guidance and support to go to your “edge” and listen for what you need, call me, that’s what I do!
